Veterinary Services

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best.  We pride ourselves on having the latest and best technology in veterinary care, such as laser surgery and digital x-ray machine.  We are one of the few clinics in the Portland area to have so many state-of-the-art pieces of equipment to help keep your pet safe and comfortable.

Anesthesia:  We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients.  Patients undergoing anesthetic procedures are on IV fluids and using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored.  This monitoring includes oxygen levels, CO2 levels, electrocardiogram, respiratory rate and blood pressure.

Blood Pressure Measurement: Blood pressure is monitored during anesthesia but we also measure blood pressure on awake dogs and cats. Like humans, pets do develop high blood pressure and can suffer from problems related to it. Our new blood pressure equipment, petMAP, is designed specifically for dogs and cats and uses new technology to provide an accurate measurement of systolic and diastolic pressure plus it also measures mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate. See the "What's New at LGVC" section for additional information.

Dentistry:  Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, digital x-rays, tooth extractions, root canal therapy, periodontal therapy and oral surgery.  We also provide extensive information on preventative dental home care.

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:
Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.

Electrocardiography: Our electrocardiograph is used to produce an electrocardiogram (EGG or EKG) which is used to diagnose and monitor treatment of diseases of the heart. The machine is identical to those used on humans.

Emergency Care:
Please call (503) 636-5681 for instructions for after-hour emergencies or click here for more information.

House Calls: We do perform house calls.  Please call ahead of time so we can block off appointment and technician time for your house call.  Emergencies will be handled immediately.

Medical Baths: Our clinic provides medicated and non-medicated bathing for dogs and cats.

Microchips: We offer microchip implantation. Microchips provide a safe and permanent way to identify your pet.

Pharmacy:  We maintain an extensive inventory of pharmaceuticals, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.

Radiology Services:  Our on-site x-ray equipment provides very high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.  We have a modern digital x-ray system that allows us to transmit the x-ray images immediately to board certified veterinary radiologists for their interpretation.  Digital x-ray machines have the added advantage of much less radiation exposure to the patient.

Ultrasound:  Ultrasound, or ultrasonography, is a diagnostic ultrasound-based imaging technique used for the examination of your pet's heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, urinary bladder, etc.  It can also be used to determine pregnancy and to monitor an ongoing pregnancy.  Ultrasound poses no known risks to the patient because it does not use ionizing radiation.

Video Vetscope: This instrument contains a tiny color digital camera connected to a tapered probe that can be used to examine the ear canal, oral cavity, nasal passage as well as other areas of the body.  The image is displayed on a color monitor where it can be viewed by the veterinarian and the patient's owner.
