Regular Wellness Exams
A wellness exam consists of a physical exam of your pet. Our Lake Oswego veterinary team will do a complete and thorough exam from nose to tail. We’ll make sure to look at your pet’s eyes and ears, take a peek at their teeth, and palpate their body for lumps or growths. We will listen to your pet’s breathing and heartbeat. Our visual exam will also include making sure your pet’s coat is shiny and healthy and their nose is wet. We may ask your pet to walk or stand so that we can check for any developing joint issues.
We’ll also ask questions about your pet’s overall health, such as:
- Bowel movements
- Eating habits
- Water intake
All of this information helps us to get a good picture of how your pet is doing. We’ll make recommendations based on what we observe in your pet.
We offer behavioral counseling for your pets at Lake Grove Veterinary Clinic. While behavior doesn’t seem directly related to your pet’s health, being able to correct problems like aggression, chewing, scratching or spraying can impact your pet’s (and your!) quality of life dramatically. Some of these issues could be related to stress or an underlying condition. We’ll provide education and advice about how to correct behavioral issues. It may be difficult to correct some of these problems, but we’ll be with you every step of the way.
Pets who are overweight can face a whole different set of health problems than pets who maintain a healthy weight. Not only can overweight pets suffer from diseases like diabetes or heart disease, but the extra weight can put stress on their joints. Keeping your pet at a healthy weight can make a huge impact on their longevity and quality of life. We’ll help you design a healthy diet for your pet and give you advice to help your pet shake the weight off. It takes time and effort, but the reward will be more years to enjoy with your pet.
Pets at different stages of their lives and with different activity levels can also have different nutritional needs. We can help you decide what diet is right for your pets, even if they’re not overweight.
